What happens when I use AI to enhance a listing photo?

The enhancement restages your photo — the item shown in a setting that suits it — while leaving the item itself photographically intact. It is a picture of your thing, in a better scene.

The tool is switched off by default and may not be available to you. Where it is on, each person can generate up to 5 enhancements in a rolling 24 hours, and retries count against that.

Your original photo is never modified. The enhancement is a new file alongside it.

What you are shown is a watermarked preview, tiled with the words "clutter.sale preview". A clean copy exists but you cannot download it — that is deliberate, so the tool cannot be used to generate free pictures for somewhere else. The clean copy becomes reachable only when you publish a listing that carries it, and the published cover is then the clean, unwatermarked version.

A listing published with an enhanced cover records that it was enhanced and keeps the untouched original alongside it. That pair is what the disclosure means, and it is what a dispute about the photo is settled from.

Editing later behaves the same way: replacing the cover with an ordinary photo clears the mark, and swapping an enhanced one in stamps it. A cover left alone keeps whatever it already had.

Photos are screened before the model runs, so a photo flagged as adult, violent or explicit is blocked at that point rather than enhanced.
