Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 25, 2026
Your privacy matters — especially because this app is about giving back. Here's exactly what we collect and how we use it.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide when you create an account and use the app: your name, email address, ZIP code, and (if you sign up by phone or use phone-OTP verification) your phone number. You may add an optional profile photo. When you list an item, we collect the photos and details you add. When you buy an item, your payment details are collected and processed by Stripe — clutter.sale never stores card or bank information. When you chat with another member after a sale, we store the messages so both parties can refer back to them.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to operate the platform: to show listings near you, to attribute donations to the nonprofit you choose, to coordinate pickups between buyers and sellers, to generate tax donation receipts, to deliver receipts by email, and to send you notifications about your account.
What Others Can See
To protect your privacy, your public profile shows only your first name and last initial (e.g. "Jane S.") — never your full last name. Your exact address is never shown on listings; only your general area is visible until a sale is confirmed, at which point the pickup location is shared with the buyer for that transaction.
Account & Authentication (Firebase, Google Sign-In, Apple Sign In)
We use Firebase Authentication (a Google service) to manage accounts. You can sign in with email and password, Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or phone-OTP. When you use a social provider, we receive only your name and email from that provider — never your password or any other account data. Sign in with Apple supports private email relay; if you use it, your real email address is not shared with us.
Photos, Listings & AI Assistance
Photos you upload for listings are stored in Firebase Storage. To help you write listings quickly, we send each photo to Google's Gemini AI to suggest a title, description, and price. Gemini processes the photo for the purpose of generating this suggestion and is not used to train ad models. We do not sell your photos. We automatically scan uploaded photos for adult, violent, or explicit content using Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch; photos flagged by SafeSearch are rejected before they can be posted.
Address Autocomplete (Google Places)
When you type a street address — for example, during nonprofit signup on our web portal — we use the Google Places API to suggest matching addresses. Your typed input is sent to Google through our servers only to fetch suggestions; we don't link the search to your account or use it for any other purpose.
Payment Data (Stripe)
All card and bank details are collected and stored by our payment processor, Stripe Inc., under their own privacy policy. clutter.sale does not retain any payment instrument data on its own servers. Stripe also handles the Connect (payout) onboarding flow for nonprofits.
Receipt Email (Resend)
When a sale completes, we email a copy of your tax-donation receipt to the email address on your account. The email is delivered by Resend, an email service provider. Resend processes the email on our behalf and does not use it for any other purpose.
Notifications
If you enable push notifications, we store a device token so we can notify you about questions, pickup scheduling, and completed donations. You can turn notifications off at any time in Settings.
Google Calendar (Optional)
If you sign in with Google and grant calendar access, we add confirmed pickup times to your primary Google Calendar. This is optional and can be disabled in Settings. We do not read your existing calendar events beyond what is needed to schedule a pickup.
Diagnostics & Crash Reporting (Sentry)
We use Sentry to capture unexpected errors and crashes so we can fix them quickly. Sentry events include a user identifier and information about the device and the error, but never the contents of your messages, photos, or payment data.
Data Sharing
We share information only as needed to operate the platform — for example, with Stripe (payment processing), with the nonprofit receiving a donation (a masked donor summary), and with the service providers listed above (Firebase, Google, Resend, Sentry) acting under our instructions. We do not sell your personal information.
How Long We Keep Your Data
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we hard-delete your personal data (profile, listings, photos, chat messages) immediately. We anonymize the records of any completed donations you've made: the donation amount, nonprofit, and receipt number are retained for the nonprofit's records and to keep tax receipts you've already received valid, but your name and contact information are stripped.
Your Choices
You can update your profile, change your default nonprofit, and manage notification and calendar preferences in Settings. You can delete your account at any time from Settings > Delete Account in the app, or from the web at clutter.sale/account/delete. Deletion is processed immediately. You can also contact support@clutter.sale for help.
Children's Privacy
clutter.sale is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact support@clutter.sale and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will reflect the effective date at the top of this page.
