How much should I trust what the camera says my item is?

Check the model number. Trust the rest.

We stopped asking the model how confident it feels, because the answer was always "very". It gets asked something it can actually answer instead: did you read that off the item, or work it out from the shape?

What you'll see

• If it read a model number, it quotes the characters back at you: "we read T430 on it; if that's not what yours says, change the title." Check them against the thing in your hands.
• If it couldn't, it names the two or three products it might be and prices each one, rather than picking and sounding sure.
• If there's no maker's mark in shot at all, it won't invent a brand from the silhouette. It asks for another angle.

The part we haven't fixed

Roughly one run in three it can still tell you it read a string that isn't on the item. That's exactly why the string is shown to you rather than used quietly — you're the check.

Photograph six things at once and it works out it's a lot before it writes anything, and tells you what it counted. Listing them one at a time usually earns more.
