How do I connect an AI assistant to my Clutter Sale account?

Updated October 30, 2026

Before you start
- Your email address must be verified.

- "Allow AI Features" must be on, under Privacy and AI in your account settings. While it is off, Clutter turns connected assistants away.

- Set it up at clutter.sale in a browser. In the Clutter Sale app, the You tab, then Connected Apps, then Connect an App opens the same page.

Step 1. Open Connected Apps
Account, then Apps and Security, then Connected Apps.

Step 2. Confirm it's you
Creating a key needs a recent sign-in. Open "Verify Sign-In & Staff Authenticator" and press Verify Password or Verify with Google. If your last sign-in was more than five minutes ago, Clutter asks again.

Step 3. Create a connection
Press Create a Connection and fill it in:

- Connection Name: something you will recognise, such as the assistant's name.

- Acting Account: your personal account, or a business you run.

- Connection Method: AI Agent (MCP).

- Expires After: 1, 7, 30 or 90 days. Pick the shortest that suits you; you can always make another.

- Allowed Actions: tick only what you want it to do, or use a Quick Choice such as "Read only", which lets the app look things up but not change, send or approve anything. Each action says what it allows.

Then press Create API Key.

Step 4. Copy the address and the key
Clutter shows them together in "Save Your Key Now". The key is not shown again, so press Copy Key and paste it straight into your assistant's settings, where it asks for a key, token or secret. A key works like a password for that one app. Press I've Saved It when you're done.

The address is called the MCP address: it is where your assistant reaches Clutter. For a personal or business account it is https://api.clutter.sale/mcp/customer, shown as "Personal and Business MCP Address" with a Copy Address button.

Step 5. Add Clutter to your assistant
In your assistant's settings, add a new custom connector or MCP server. Paste the address, and nothing else, into the address box. Where it asks for a header, key or token, Copy Header gives you the whole line it needs (it starts "Authorization: Bearer"); some apps want only the key itself. Never put the key in the address; Clutter refuses keys sent that way.

Signing in through Clutter instead
Some assistants connect by opening a Clutter page called Connect an App. There you sign in, choose the account, tick the actions you allow, and press Allow Selected Actions, or Deny Access. This works only for apps that have been registered with Clutter. If yours hasn't, use a key as above.

Afterwards
The connection appears under Your Connections with its end date. When that date passes, the assistant stops working with your account until you create a new connection.
