What are Connected Apps?

Connected Apps let an app you use, such as an AI assistant, work with your Clutter Sale account for you. You decide which account it acts for, exactly what it may do, and for how long. You can see what it did and switch it off at any time.

Where to find them
- On the web: Account, then Apps and Security, then Connected Apps (clutter.sale/account/connections).
- In the Clutter Sale app: the You tab, then Connected Apps.
- For a charity: Connected Apps in your nonprofit dashboard.

What a connection is
A connection is one app's permission to use your account. Each one has:
- a name you choose, so you recognise it,
- the account it acts for: your personal account, a business you run, or a charity you manage,
- the actions it is allowed, ticked one by one,
- an end date, after which it stops working by itself.
An app acts as you, with your access and nothing more. It can't see anybody else's private information.

What happens straight away, and what waits for you
Looking things up, saving listings and writing private drafts happen straight away, because nobody else sees them. Anything other people would see, or anything that spends money, waits for you to approve it in Clutter: publishing a listing, sending a message, opening or replying to a support ticket, proposing pickup dates, publishing a charity post, or asking to change a charity's profile. A purchase also needs your own card, entered on Clutter.

The ways to connect
- AI Agent (MCP), for AI assistants such as ChatGPT or Claude. MCP is the standard way AI assistants plug into other services: you give the assistant an address and a key.
- Developer API (REST), for a program a developer writes.
- Some apps connect by sending you to a Clutter page where you sign in and choose what to allow.
